Holly Hunter, who won a 1993 Oscar for her lead actress performance in “The Piano,” will receive a Career Achievement Award Jan. 2 at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Her career includes roles in such notable films as “Broadcast News,” “The Firm” and “Thirteen,” but she’s coming off a memorable featured performance in the summer comedy hit, “The Big Sick.”

She joins a pantheon of past Career Achievement Award recipients including Clint Eastwood, Sally Field, Robert Duvall, Samuel L. Jackson, Glenn Close, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Costner, Annette Bening, Bruce Dern and Lynn Redgrave.

“Holly Hunter’s career is filled with many memorable performances, including her Academy Award-winning role in ‘The Piano,’” said Festival Chairman Harold Matzner. “In her recent film, ‘The Big Sick,’ she brings comedy and poignancy as a mother coping with her daughter’s coma, while bonding with her daughter’s ex-boyfriend.”
